Successfully completed the inaugural flight support for Swiss International Air Lines, bringing the total number of BGS clients to 54.

In the early hours of February 12, as Swiss International Air Lines (code LX, referred to as Swissair) Flight 196 arrived smoothly at the Capital International Airport, BGS welcomed its 54th airline customer. This marks the second airline cargo operation that BGS has handled in 2012, following South African Airways’ inaugural flight to Beijing. As a professional ground handling agent, BGS boasts extensive experience in cargo operations. As early as January 18, the company held an operational coordination meeting with Swissair and Air China (the Chinese national airline, which handles Swissair’s passenger and apron operations at Beijing’s airport), during which they finalized details such as flight arrival and departure times, cargo loading procedures, and discussed the coordination and operational models for the three-party business relationship. On February 2 and 8, the three parties conducted final confirmations on detailed flight information, specific operational procedures, and requirements. On the day of the inaugural flight, BGS’s cargo-handling operations proceeded smoothly and efficiently. Thirty minutes before the flight’s landing, all outbound cargo had been delivered to the aircraft’s designated parking spot, and a seamless handover of operations was completed with Air China’s apron staff. The inaugural outbound flight LX197 carried a total of 32 shipments—260 pieces weighing 14,918 kilograms—which departed smoothly from the Capital International Airport, marking BGS’s successful completion of Swissair’s inaugural flight support. The launch of the Beijing route also presents significant opportunities for Swissair’s cargo operations. “We look forward to establishing our brand and delivering high-quality services in Beijing,” said Oliver Evans, Chief Cargo Officer. “As our third aviation hub in Greater China, the Beijing route will provide a cargo capacity of 18 tons per flight for our double-flights.” Following Hong Kong and Shanghai, Beijing is Swissair’s third destination in China. “The launch of this new route represents another important milestone in Swissair’s development and expansion of its global network,” said Harry Hohmeister, CEO of Swiss International Air Lines. “The direct flights between Beijing and Switzerland will attract both business and leisure travelers from both countries.” With the launch of these direct round-trip flights between Beijing and Zurich, Swissair will further strengthen commercial and tourism exchanges between China and Switzerland, while also offering passengers convenient connecting services to Europe and other destinations.
