Recently, the Civil Aviation Administration issued a notice recognizing outstanding contributions to air transportation during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Qu Xueyong, from the Baggage Division of the Apron Operations Department, was awarded the honorary title of “Advanced Individual in Air Transportation Support.”
Qu Xueyong currently serves as the Manager of the Baggage Division in the Apron Operations Department, overseeing a team of nearly 400 members. He is one of many company employees who have participated in the support efforts for both the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Beijing Summer Olympics. In 2022, as the person in charge of baggage handling for Olympic-related flights, Qu Xueyong organized his support team. As a “Dual-Olympics” veteran, he felt deeply honored and committed to contributing to the “Dual-Olympics City.” Qu Xueyong volunteered enthusiastically to join the frontline work of the Winter Olympics’ “Two-集中” support system. “During the more than half-month period of ‘Two-集中’ support, we couldn’t go home and had to fight alongside our teammates day and night—ensuring that the Winter Olympic athletes could arrive smoothly and depart swiftly. It’s an absolute duty and honor for us.”
1 Moon 28 Day, BGS Welcoming the Winter Olympics, Delta Air Lines has undertaken charter flight support missions, providing comprehensive passenger services. 203 People, luggage 703 This follows the port security measures implemented for the Winter Olympics. BGS We successfully completed the busiest single-shift charter flight mission for the Winter Olympics, handling over 700 pieces of luggage—a task that required meticulous coordination and seamless execution. Thanks to our efficient and swift approach, each flight was handled with precision and smoothness, bringing peace of mind to our colleagues and boosting their confidence in managing luggage operations. As the Winter Olympics came to a close, we entered a peak period for departure flights, with the total volume of luggage soaring to over 20,000 pieces. Among them, oversized and out-of-spec sports equipment—such as ski gear and snowboards—had significantly increased. At times, it took four or five people working together to move a single piece of luggage, greatly raising the difficulty and intensity of luggage handling. Under the leadership of Qu Xueyong, our team actively assisted passengers with luggage weighing and, based on the characteristics of each piece of luggage, sorted and batched them accordingly, then used dedicated elevators for oversized luggage transport. Next, the luggage was routed to the sorting hall for further sorting, packing, and boxing before being loaded onto the aircraft. In this single shift, we managed to handle 1,047 pieces of luggage, setting a new record for the highest single-shift luggage volume ever handled.
“We’ve won this battle!” Qu Xueyong said proudly. Leading the baggage team, he and his colleagues have fulfilled their pledge to ensure “smooth handling and swift departure.” Cherishing this honor, they’ll keep up the good work and strive even harder. Qu Xueyong stated that in future endeavors, they’ll continue to put in their utmost effort and achieve even greater and more outstanding results.
