For a long time, the storage of temperature-controlled goods—high-value, time-sensitive, and meeting stringent specifications—has been a key focus of BGS’s Freight Department. To ensure the safety and standardization of its operations, the Freight Department recently drew on “finger-saying” practices and innovatively proposed using operational command gestures in combination with verbal commands to enhance the level of safe operations within cold storage facilities.
The CHR3 warehouse in the freight department is primarily used for storing temperature-controlled goods in full containers. Since the installation of the roller conveyor system at CHR3, employees have noticed that moving containers within the cold storage requires multiple people to work together. This operation poses safety risks that could result in injuries to personnel and damage to goods.
To ensure the safety and standardization of temperature-controlled cargo handling, the Freight Department systematically adopted the “Finger-Pointing and Verbalizing” work method. After careful discussion and practical application tailored to their own operations, the department innovatively introduced the “CHR3 Cold Storage Operation Guidance Instructions.” By using prescribed hand gestures and standardized verbal cues, these instructions guide operators moving containers within the cold storage facility, helping to enhance their concentration, ensure uniformity in exertion and consistent movement direction, and effectively safeguard both the cold-storage goods and the operators themselves. Recently, the Freight Department conducted unified training on the “CHR3 Cold Storage Operation Guidance Instructions” for all relevant operational positions. The training was attended by 20 commercial staff members and 33 laborers. Through this training, the concept of safe operation has been reinforced, and the importance of the safety guidance instructions has been clearly emphasized.
Relying on existing resources and fully leveraging its initiative, the Freight Department continuously makes changes and improvements in operations, safety, and service details, constantly innovating its working methods. This demonstrates a proactive awareness and capability to address prominent and challenging issues, aligning perfectly with the company’s management philosophy and requirements. The Freight Department will continue to optimize and refine various service, safety, and operational procedures, enhancing the service and safety operating environment, and playing a positive and effective role in supporting the company’s overall operations.
